- Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I spent weekends and vacations hiking in the mountains and cycling to school during term time. I started technical cycling in 2004 when I joined a dynamic triathlon team in California. One challenge led to another. I always had dreams of cycling across the US but thought it would take 30days after a run down the west coast. The run is still on hold, but may change to a transcontinental crossing just like the bike crossing became an opportunity to participate in a prestigious event. My 6 x 100 mile runs and 3 marathon ocean swims and Quintuple Ironman grew from the endurance I gained climbing the 7 summits. In July 09 I will tell you if they were good preparation for Race Across America! When not in the outdoors, I am trying to make little kids giggle while getting infusions to fight their cancers. They are my real heroes with their demonstration of courage and determination to live and enjoy life to the full.
